Olympic Torch Relay: Now You See it, Now You Don't!

OMG—That’s a lot of people!

Drizzly day or not, nothing could dampen the Canadian spirit of the several thousands of supporters who lined the streets of Edgemont Boulevard to catch a glimpse of the Torch Runner on February 10th, 2010. This milestone event apparently stirred something in the souls of Canadians everywhere across the country, and our little Village was no different.

Over 7,000 cheering residents rearranged the streets of Edgemont in order to be part of this Olympic event, and part of the celebration in the Village.

Canadian colours were in evidence everywhere, from the Village flagpoles to the smallest child—even dogs dressed in Canadian flags—all elevating the sense of unity and hope. We are one and we are proud!

The Edgemont Village Eh? Team also made a strong appearance at the event! Hundreds of residents and visitors had their photos taken with the team, and many people were spotted wearing the distinctive Team shirt. Go Eh? Team!

All the attendees were treated to performances by Asha Diaz, Black Powder Toys and Swayed—great entertainers all.

Hungry stomachs were looked after for the day by a generous donation from the local Super Valu, with funds raised to go into the Edgemont Merchant Association.

This community event was sponsored and organised by the Edgemont Village Business Association. All t-shirt net proceeds go to the Association.

A special thank you to all the volunteers who so graciously donated their time for this spectacular day and to our residents who continue to collaborate with us.

Go Canada! Go Edgemont!

Seasonal Events

Harvest Festival This free, village-wide street fair sees the community packed with 5000 attendees who come to enjoy a variety of family-friendly, all-day events. From bands on the main stage, to Irish dancers, a ventriloquist, or The Extreme bike show with Dangerous Dan — there’s something for everyone.

Christmas in The Village Come December, Edgemont Village transforms into a winter wonderland. Each Christmas, we decorate our distinctive, red lamp standards to resemble giant candy canes and light the trees on the street corners and boulevards. Carolers line the streets, Santa makes an annual stop for a day of photos with kids (and pets!) and community contests add to the buzz.

Evenings in Edgemont As surely as summer arrives, so does live music come to Edgemont Village on Friday nights throughout July and August. This joint initiative with the Parks and Recreation Commission has been a resounding success from its first note 9 summers ago. Here, in our extremely beautiful natural setting, we are able to present the sounds of 8 diverse, professional bands for families to enjoy while spending time with their friends and neighbours right in the heart of the village. Attendance at these evenings has grown to average 1200 to 1500 or more; the series finale in August, at which we share the evening with Public Dreams Society and the Wild Lights festival, has attracted attendees of up to 5000.
