Edgemont Shined On & On
Cars, Cars & More Cars!
July 11th was our inaugural car show here in Edgemont Village, but rest assured it will be the first of many, based on the success of this one.
The sun shone down for us, as the technicolor parade of these splendid vehicles began to arrive. Each one exquisite, and uniquely beautiful unto itself. You know, when we hear those tired idioms like “they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to!”, that must have been created just for car collectors, because they sure don’t!
All gorgeous curves, and glistening colours, shiny chrome & impeccable interiors. And the design details: the mirrors, lights, grills, fins, logos, hubcaps, steering wheels…the list is endless & awe inspiring.
As the show organiser I had no idea how many, and how glorious these ‘car exhibits’ would be…these loved, restored, historical monuments to eras past, brought to a level of perfection and beyond by their obsessive owners. What an outstanding event this turned out to be for all of us here in Edgemont. And what a privilege it is, really, to be invited to share an afternoon with these fantastical vehicles, taken out just for the day, for us to view, before they are tucked away again, from all harm. Extraordinary!
The participants, all 147 of them, were very happy to be here on our newly paved streets, and they were laid out with great artistry, by my amazing assistant Gerry Simons, North Shore Rod & Custom.
Although all the vehicles were spectacular, we did have public voting for a bit of fun, and the winners were; Peoples Choice: Rich Chalke, 1970 Ford Cobra Torino, Favourite Chic Car: Marilyn Coan, 1955 Ford Thunderbird, Favourite Import: Alan Nixon, 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, Favourite Hot Rod: Tom Southern, 1949 F47 Pick-Up.
