Events in the Village

Danced in the Street, 2011

“I could have danced, danced, danced, all night.”

Edgemont Village was definitely primed for this, our third annual “Dancing in the Street” event. From the first notes played by the amazing BobCats, there were dancers in position raring to go.

Many regulars from our usual friday nights coming specifically to dance on the larger dance floor, and many new attendees coming just for the event itself until we were bursting at the seems with more than 1,500 of you.

Music is a great leveler, and the Bobcats are our fabulous conduit. The one through which we all, children, teens, adults and seniors can be connected for a few perfect hours of absolute pleasure!

The Bobcats, with their great and diverse songbook, seem able to both engage an audience and coax the best out of us.

I would suggest, that, yes, Edgemont, you know you can dance. So don’t put those shoes away, practice all year long, and we’ll be waiting for you at the corner of Highland & Edgemont next summer.

Seasonal Events

Harvest Festival This free, village-wide street fair sees the community packed with 5000 attendees who come to enjoy a variety of family-friendly, all-day events. From bands on the main stage, to Irish dancers, a ventriloquist, or The Extreme bike show with Dangerous Dan — there’s something for everyone.

Christmas in The Village Come December, Edgemont Village transforms into a winter wonderland. Each Christmas, we decorate our distinctive, red lamp standards to resemble giant candy canes and light the trees on the street corners and boulevards. Carolers line the streets, Santa makes an annual stop for a day of photos with kids (and pets!) and community contests add to the buzz.

Evenings in Edgemont As surely as summer arrives, so does live music come to Edgemont Village on Friday nights throughout July and August. This joint initiative with the Parks and Recreation Commission has been a resounding success from its first note 9 summers ago. Here, in our extremely beautiful natural setting, we are able to present the sounds of 8 diverse, professional bands for families to enjoy while spending time with their friends and neighbours right in the heart of the village. Attendance at these evenings has grown to average 1200 to 1500 or more; the series finale in August, at which we share the evening with Public Dreams Society and the Wild Lights festival, has attracted attendees of up to 5000.
