2nd Annual Show and Shine

If You Have Seen One Car, You Haven’t seen Them All!

July 17th was our 2nd car show here in Edgemont Village, and another spectacular day all around.

What can you say… ain’t they pretty! Wow and more wow! Eventually, the beauty of these vehicles leave you almost breathless. It takes little time to understand the passion and obsession the owners have for these magnificant artifacts from our past.

We had fifty more exhibits than last year, and that’s just a treat for all of us attending. That we get to glimpse something so rare and so adored.

The sun shone down for us, as the technicolor parade of these splendid vehicles began to arrive. Each one exquisite, and uniquely beautiful unto itself. You know, when we hear those tired idioms like “they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to!”, that must have been created just for car collectors, because they sure don’t!

All gorgeous curves, and glistening colours, shiny chrome & impeccable interiors. And the design details: the mirrors, lights, grills, fins, logos, hubcaps, steering wheels…the list is endless & awe inspiring.

As the show organiser I had no idea how many, and how glorious these ‘car exhibits’ would be…these loved, restored, historical monuments to eras past, brought to a level of perfection and beyond by their owners. What a privilege it is, really, to be invited to share an afternoon with these fantastical vehicles, taken out just for the day, for us to view, before they are tucked away again, from all harm. Extraordinary!

The participants, all 200 of them, were very happy to be here and they were laid out with great artistry, by my assistant Gerry Simons, North Shore Rod & Custom.

Seasonal Events

Harvest Festival This free, village-wide street fair sees the community packed with 5000 attendees who come to enjoy a variety of family-friendly, all-day events. From bands on the main stage, to Irish dancers, a ventriloquist, or The Extreme bike show with Dangerous Dan — there’s something for everyone.

Christmas in The Village Come December, Edgemont Village transforms into a winter wonderland. Each Christmas, we decorate our distinctive, red lamp standards to resemble giant candy canes and light the trees on the street corners and boulevards. Carolers line the streets, Santa makes an annual stop for a day of photos with kids (and pets!) and community contests add to the buzz.

Evenings in Edgemont As surely as summer arrives, so does live music come to Edgemont Village on Friday nights throughout July and August. This joint initiative with the Parks and Recreation Commission has been a resounding success from its first note 9 summers ago. Here, in our extremely beautiful natural setting, we are able to present the sounds of 8 diverse, professional bands for families to enjoy while spending time with their friends and neighbours right in the heart of the village. Attendance at these evenings has grown to average 1200 to 1500 or more; the series finale in August, at which we share the evening with Public Dreams Society and the Wild Lights festival, has attracted attendees of up to 5000.
