12th Annual Evenings in Edgemont

Can you hear it? Music notes, faintly in the air… signalling, for those of us here in Edgemont Village, the official beginning of summer. The long awaited arrival of sunshine harkens our summer music series!

Join us as Edgemont Village celebrates summer with our 12th annual Evenings in Edgemont, our Friday night outdoor music concert series.

This fabulous neighborhood event is brought to you by the Edgemont Village Business & Professional Association, the District of North Vancouver, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission and the listed Edgemont Village merchant sponsors who help to defray the costs of these events.

As always, we carefully select bands to bring vibrant, diverse and stimulating music to the neighborhood to engage and inform you, but also to enhance your musical horizons and mostly to just enjoy. Something for every musical taste. This year a little Motown, more scintilating Cuban ( just try not to dance!), Tractor Jazz, Cajun, Soul, Celtic and for us diehard Beatlemaniacs; The Fab Fourever return.

We tried to get you dancing last year with moderate success…and we aren’t giving up on you. Your efforts were valiant and we will encourage you each friday to keep trying, so that by August 13th, our family dance party night you will be stoked, and ready!

This will be our 2nd Dancing in the Street, family street dance, with The Bobcats for some Rock & Roll. See the event posting for details & remember to practice your dancing at any/all of the concert nights!

Sadly, there will be no Grande Finale this year. One of our community partners, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council, will no longer be part of our concert series due to significant budget cutbacks. The loss of this grant to them, and subsequently to us and our community has repurcussion’s we will all feel.

We have been very fortunate to have been, dazzled and bewitched by the Wild Lights Lantern Festival and Fire Performances by Public Dreams on our last evening for many years, and for this we are very grateful. These evenings attracted roughly 5000 people, many of them children who, after making lanterns before or during the event, were able to join the parade and walk through the Village with the musicians and costumed performers from Public Dreams. Building memories for a lifetime. We thank you.

We look forward to seeing you all here this summer for our fantastic community concerts. Can there be a better to way to spend an evening than in the company of your neighbours, with music soaring through the air of this magical setting?

Please remember to check the site for Friday night weather forecasts and possible last minute rainout cancellations. Otherwise, don’t forget your lawn chairs and your dancing shoes!

Seasonal Events

Harvest Festival This free, village-wide street fair sees the community packed with 5000 attendees who come to enjoy a variety of family-friendly, all-day events. From bands on the main stage, to Irish dancers, a ventriloquist, or The Extreme bike show with Dangerous Dan — there’s something for everyone.

Christmas in The Village Come December, Edgemont Village transforms into a winter wonderland. Each Christmas, we decorate our distinctive, red lamp standards to resemble giant candy canes and light the trees on the street corners and boulevards. Carolers line the streets, Santa makes an annual stop for a day of photos with kids (and pets!) and community contests add to the buzz.

Evenings in Edgemont As surely as summer arrives, so does live music come to Edgemont Village on Friday nights throughout July and August. This joint initiative with the Parks and Recreation Commission has been a resounding success from its first note 9 summers ago. Here, in our extremely beautiful natural setting, we are able to present the sounds of 8 diverse, professional bands for families to enjoy while spending time with their friends and neighbours right in the heart of the village. Attendance at these evenings has grown to average 1200 to 1500 or more; the series finale in August, at which we share the evening with Public Dreams Society and the Wild Lights festival, has attracted attendees of up to 5000.
