Evenings in Edgemont: 10th Anniversary

As promised, summer is just around the corner (we are assured of it!) and so are our summer music concerts. Join us as Edgemont Village celebrates our 10th year with Evenings in Edgemont, our Friday night outdoor music concert series.

This annual event is brought to you by the Edgemont Village Business & Professional Association, the District of North Vancouver and the North Vancouver Recreation Commission (and with Edgemont Village merchant sponsors who help to defray the costs of these events).

Anticipation starts early for this increasingly popular venue. As soon as the weather begins to warm, we start to get inquiries from bands hoping to perform and from our community, who can’t wait for the performances to start.

This anniversary year, we have a spectacular and diverse lineup, with exciting music to please every musical taste. Exuberant Swing. Foot stompin’ country. Standards swung hard. Tractor jazz(?). And at long last, for all of us Boomers, a nod to the 60s with a British Invasion evening. (Can you do the Freddy?)

On a few special evenings this summer, we’ll be enhancing our line-up with some visiting dancers. And for those of you who have always been interested but too shy: a dance lesson or two at intermissions.

As always — with our community partner, the North Vancouver Community Arts Council — we can expect to be dazzled and bewitched by the Wild Lights Lantern Festival and Fire Performances by Public Dreams on our last evening (August 22nd) following this year’s final band. These evenings attract roughly 5000 people, many of them children who, after making lanterns before or during the event, are able to join the parade and walk through the Village with the musicians and costumed performers from Public Dreams. If you are able to attend only one concert this summer, be sure to bring your children or grandchildren for this wondrous evening!

We look forward to seeing you all here this summer for our fantastic community concerts. Can there be a better to way to spend an evening than in the company of your neighbours, with music soaring through the air of this magical setting?

Please remember to check the site for Friday night weather forecasts and possible last minute rainout cancellations. Otherwise, don’t forget your lawn chairs and your dancing shoes!

Seasonal Events

Harvest Festival This free, village-wide street fair sees the community packed with 5000 attendees who come to enjoy a variety of family-friendly, all-day events. From bands on the main stage, to Irish dancers, a ventriloquist, or The Extreme bike show with Dangerous Dan — there’s something for everyone.

Christmas in The Village Come December, Edgemont Village transforms into a winter wonderland. Each Christmas, we decorate our distinctive, red lamp standards to resemble giant candy canes and light the trees on the street corners and boulevards. Carolers line the streets, Santa makes an annual stop for a day of photos with kids (and pets!) and community contests add to the buzz.

Evenings in Edgemont As surely as summer arrives, so does live music come to Edgemont Village on Friday nights throughout July and August. This joint initiative with the Parks and Recreation Commission has been a resounding success from its first note 9 summers ago. Here, in our extremely beautiful natural setting, we are able to present the sounds of 8 diverse, professional bands for families to enjoy while spending time with their friends and neighbours right in the heart of the village. Attendance at these evenings has grown to average 1200 to 1500 or more; the series finale in August, at which we share the evening with Public Dreams Society and the Wild Lights festival, has attracted attendees of up to 5000.
